Rebecca Ann Seweryn joined the U.S. Department of State following a varied career as an economist. Dr. Seweryn taught economics as a Graduate Associate at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ and then as an Assistant Professor at Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota. Dr. Seweryn then joined Moody’s Economy.com, working as an Economist and then a Senior Economist

In these positions Dr. Seweryn edited numerous publications, prepared forecasts, provided analysis and presented at conferences on varied economic topics. In 2008, Dr. Seweryn joined government service, working first at the U.S. Department of Commerce helping to adjust models for analyzing the effects of proposed carbon emissions legislation on the economy before joining the U.S. Department of State in 2009. Her current position as a consular officer in Chennai is her first overseas posting although she studied abroad previously in both France and Italy. Dr. Seweryn received her B.A. in Economics and International Politics from Pennsylvania State University as well as her M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from Arizona State University.
